Rev. A. Keith
Mozingo, our new Pastor, comes to us from Los Angeles. Prior to that, he was in
Chattanooga, TN, where he was Pastor of The Rock MCC and a teacher in the
public school system. He is a native of Goldsboro, NC, and is the son of a
Church of God preacher. His parents are now deceased,
but he has a brother, sister-in-law, and stepmother in Laurinburg, NC.
Rev. Keith graduated from Lee
University (a Church of God school) with a B.A. degree in English/Spanish/Bible
and has done M.A. work in English. He has taught English and Spanish in the
public school system for the last 19 years and was recently named in Whos
Who Among American Teachers. His last teaching assignment was at the Center for
Creative Arts in Chattanooga where he taught Spanish and served as Department
Chair of the Foreign Language Department. Rev.
Keith found MCC after discovering and reading a copy of Rev. Elder
Troy Perrys book, The Lord Is My Shepherd And He Knows Im Gay, on
the shelves of the Lee University library.
He
became a member of MCC in 1989 and has served in many capacities through the
years, including Treasurer of the Board of Directors, Lay Delegate, Alternate
Lay Delegate, Stewardship Chair, and (for most of those years) Music Director
at St. Johns MCC in Raleigh, NC.
He was
ordained in 2000 and served five years as Pastor of The Rock MCC in
Chattanooga, TN. While pastoring, Rev. Keith helped form small-group ministries
in the church, including an outreach/follow-up team, music team,
childrens church, and hospitality team.
In the community, Rev. Keith formed an alliance with other
gay-friendly churches, wrote articles and was interviewed for the Chattanooga
Times Free Press, spoke at Gay Pride and World AIDS Day events, and conducted a
public vigil around the death of Matthew Shepherd.
Rev. Keiths vision as Pastor of Congregational Care at MCCLA was to
implement innovative ways of ministry in their church and
community.
His passion is helping people
understand who they are in Christ and Who Christ is in them. He enjoys helping
believers become better disciples of Christ. In addition to serving as Pastor
at MCCBR, Rev. Keith continues to serve on the Advisory Board of Rev. Dr.
Armando Sanchez, Elder of Region 2.
Rev. Keith can be reached at MCCBR by telephone or by email at
