Dwayne White,
MCCBR's Music Minister and Worship Leader, is from Savannah, GA. He grew up
attending churches in the Church of God and Assembly of God denominations.
Knowing there was a call on his life to
go into the music ministry, he attended Lee University (a Church of God school)
and pursued a B.A. in Church Music. Also at Lee, he received a minor in Bible
and completed all course work for a B.M.E. (Bachelor of Music Education).

At the age of 18, Dwayne placed 1st in the state and went on to the
nationals in the solo piano category in the Church of God Teen Talent
Competition. |
After graduating, Dwayne worked as a full-time Minister of Music
in several Pentecostal churches. At his first church in Fayetteville, NC, he
led the Youth Choir to their first ever National-level Teen Talent Competition
- placing 1st runner up. From there he moved to Bowling Green's 1st Assembly of
God in KY where he led worship and directed the Adult Choir and 15-piece
orchestra.
In his next church position, he served as Minister of Music for
the 1200-member First Assembly of God in Albany, GA where he directed a graded
choir program consisting of four choirs including the 80-voice Adult Choir.
During his tenure,
the Music and Arts Department produced several full-scale multi-media
productions with elaborate sets and costumes. The most memorable being a
musical/drama reenactment of The Lord's Supper.
Although he
loved what he did, he knew that he was not being true to himself, so he
resigned from his church and decided to pursue a "second chance at life". He
attended culinary school and received a certificate in Culinary Arts. He worked
at the prestigious Charleston Place Hotel in the Baking and Pastry Department
and later started his own catering company, "An Affair to Remember".
Dwayne met
his partner, Dean, and moved to Greenville, NC where he served 7 years as Music
Director and Organist at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He also taught Choral Music
with Greene County Schools and served as Department Chair for the Visual and
Performing Arts Department.
His choirs
consistently received superior ratings at the NC Choral Festivals.
Dwayne and his
partner moved to Baton Rouge in 2005 and he started with MCC-BR the following
year. Dwayne feels like he has been given a second chance at what he loves to
do - lead people into worship. His ministry motto is "Musical Excellence
with Anointing" - presenting the best we have to offer God and then asking
the Holy Spirit to anoint it so that it will make a difference in people's
lives. |
